The unbelief of His countrymen prevented Jesus from performing many mighty works because they had doubts over what He is doing because they knew where he was coming from - son of the carpenter, brother of James etc. Jesus knew that they would still doubt and ask where His power was coming from. This made Him not to perform many mighty works among them.
