Joseph from the town of Arimathaea was a wealthy Jewish religious leader. What risk did he take and why was he willing to do this? Note: Isaiah 53:9 - "And they made His grave with the wicked, But with the rich at His death."

Joseph was wealthy and a Jewish religious leader but he was also a beleiver in Jesus ministry. Remember, the Bible recorded that he was looking for the Kingdom of God.

He has heard Jesus teaching and knew that Jesus was more than a prophet. He needs to be honoured whether in life or in death.

Why did Jesus cry out, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?" Note: This is a direct quote from the Jewish Scripture, Psalm 22:1.

Remember he came to earth as a human being to bear our guilt. So at that point he is feeling human and the pain was intense.

He has always been in tune with the Father and apparently beleived that the death would not take a long process but it wasnt so hence the crucial painful moments.

He felt alone, abandoned and in pain

Why is it signficant that Jesus fulfilled what was predicted hundreds of years before? Note: Mark refers to the old Scriptures from the Prophet Isaiah (chapter 53) "He poured out his soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And he bore the sins of many." Isaiah 53 contains many more matches to events in Jesus` life.

First and foremost, it is Gods' will and must be done.

Secondly, we on earth needed salvation for our souls. If Christ has not died, we wouldnt have had direct communion with God.
