Compassion is the product of deep agape love that enables one to empathise with another person and put oneself in that person's shoes at a moment of afflliction, and by that is able to selflessly render appriopriate assistance or provide solution. That kind of love is what Jesus Christ had for the Jews in his first advent on earth in the fleshly form, that made him to heal their sick, bring back to life their dead ones, and feed the hungry multitude during the sermon at the mountain. Jesus Christ demonstrated this compassion in the fullest form when he laid down his life to save mankind from eternal destruction. He took on our infirmities, bore our iniquities, and died the death of a sinner on the cross.  

Compassion is a strong emotion of sympathy, which in our Lord's case, propels one to show kindness, affection to those who are afflicted or troubled. It goes beyond just merely feeling "sorry" for someone, but includes actually helping them.
