Jesus warned against false religious piety and exhibitionism without genuine love for people or God.He was warning against attitudes and showmanship designed to decieve the less knowledgeable about one's religious commitments.

We do have people like that today even in the church.People who are "holier than thou".People who judge and condemn others.They exhibit public religious commitment but have false and sometimes evil intentions.We have them in false prophets abd those who defraud the church.
