What did Mary understand about who was in her womb before the birth of Jesus?

I am sure Mary understood that the Son of God was in her womb and that it was a privilege to serve God by bearing a Son who would be King forever.

Why is it significant that when Mary arrived with Jesus in her womb, the unborn John the Baptist leaped in the womb of his mother Elizabeth?

I think the scenario was significant for both women for reassurance of the mighty job that laid ahead of both of them. Mary needed that reassurance from her cousin that what she had done was correct and good. Also, John the Baptist and Jesus both knew what was happening in their lives. This little detail was also important for all of the future gentiles especially the ones that don't believe.
