Jesus talked about eating His flesh and drinking His blood. Many of His disciples took it in the literal sense. Jesus of course was talking about accepting the word of God so that we may be saved. Many of His disciples also desired the worldly goods instead of the spiritual gift.

If the world hates those who testify that its works are evil, why didn`t Jesus deemphasize this portion of His message? It was THE message that He came to testify. De-emphasizing this portion of His message would have not allowed Him to fulfill the gospel.
