Why did John introduce Jesus as "the Lamb of God"? Jesus was the final sacrafice. lambs were used as sacrafices for sins, so his listeners would know what he meant by lamb of God.

John the Baptist announced that the Messiah was on earth and among them, physically. A revered man himself, John pointed people to the arrival of Jesus, the supreme being. John baptized with water (symbolic of the Spirit), but this was to prepare people for baptism of the Holy Spirit.
