Why was it important for Jesus to go through a time of temptation? To show that He can not be fooled, and to show His purity as the Son of the God.

How did (does) repenting prepare someone for the Kingdom of God? By repenting; we confess our sins to God who hears us and forgives us. Without sins we are pure and ready for the kingdomof God.
