Why does Jesus describe to his disciples how disobedient, ignorant and lazy servants are punished by their master, and how obedient, alert and active servants are given greater authority?

He uses this as a parable to describe what will happen upon his second coming. THose faithful and waiting for him will be rewarded, whereas those unprepared will be punished.

What are the benefits and disbenefits (costs) of worrying?

There are no benefits of worrying, because you can not change things by worrying. The costs of worrying is that you dont concentrate on what is important, and that is preparing yourself for the kingdom of God.

How does the host respond when people reject his dinner invitation in order to pursue their possessions and relationships?

The host is very angry to those people who reject his invitation and turn to those in the streets, highways and hedges and bring them in to the great supper. This parable is about God's chosen people who rejected Jesus and so the good news goes to the Gentles.
