Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus? envy had entered the hearts of the jewish leaders(sanhedrin)and the devil took advantage of their inability to see what was clearly written in the old testament. this was a political move on the part of the jewish leaders who did not want there position changed by Jesus. Barabbas was truly guilty of making revolutionary moves against Rome, so the multitudes mentioned who screamed for his release were probably friends and family members who were minipulated by the sanhedrin to yell for Barabbas to be released instead of Jesus. Anyway you put it Jesus was in charge of what was taking place.
