He did not have to pay taxes, but he did not want this issue to be a stumbling block for the Jewish community he was trying to reach. Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money? So that Peter wouldn't have any doubt that it was from Jesus.

How can one increase his faith to be the size of a mustard seed? (see also Luke 17:5-19) According to the lesson, it would be through prayer and fasting. I continue to pray that one day I may be able to achieve this level of faith.
