Peter began to sink because he took his eyes off Jesus; he became afraid when he saw the severity of the winds and waves.

If we continually keep our eyes on Christ and keep Him first place in our life, everything else falls into place.

As a human being, I have found this to be a struggle.  But, when I return to Christ and turn everything over to Him, everything falls into place.

Praise God for His grace and unfailing love!

Why did Peter begin to sink when he became afraid? When is it wrong to be afraid?
Peter began to sink because he had no faith and had doubts in his mind that he would not be saved by Jesus.  Doubts and no faith makes us afraid.

Why did Peter begin to sink when he became afraid? When is it wrong to be afraid?

Peter was able to walk on water because he was focused on his master and the belief that all things are possible through JESUS. Peter only started to sink when he looked around and lost sight of the end goal, that is, his belief in JESUS.

Being afraid is very natural, but if you believe in JESUS and the LORD there is never any reason to be afraid. JESUS and his FATHER are always there to remove this fear if we seek them. Being afraid is something the evil one does in order to wedge his way into our relationship with JESUS and the FATHER (trying to keep us from experiencing every possible happiness apparent in our lives).
