What point is Jesus making when He states "eternal life" is knowing the Father and Jesus Christ? Knowing and having faith that Jesus was sent from God and died for our sins on the cross so that we may have eternal life.

What point is Jesus making when He states "eternal life" is knowing the Father and Jesus Christ? Knowing that God exsists is not enough. The devil knows that! We have to know that God is our father, that he sent Jesus to die for the worlds sins, that by believing in Jesus and doing what he asks of us to the best of our ability we have eternal life with the Holy Father and Jesus.
