What was it about Jesus` answer that caused the Pharisees and Herodians to marvel? Jesus answer amazed the Pharisees and the Herodians when he made them realize that you have to pay your debts, give unto Caesar what is due to the earhtly authorities by paying your taxes and to God you give your offering. Do not confuse the two. In the world we live in we have to pay our debts and do not try to be hypocritical, because our God is the judge. Some of us feel that our Heavenly Father does not want us to pay our debts but he does.

Why was the Kingdom of God taken away from the chief priests and Pharisees? Their hearts were hardened against God. No fruit was to be bourn there so God planted the seeds where it will bear much fruit. It does not mean God broke his promise with the Jews but more graceous to allow the gentiles to be partakers of the grace of God. God will save all and mankind who obeys him.
