Why did Jesus answer a question with a question, rather than just telling the Pharisees by what authority He acted? Jesus was testing the Pharisees they seem not to understand God`s work even though he was preaching and teaching them. He showed them God`s work through baptism of John, yet they were in doubt. So he asked them a question to see if they really understood God`s work, yet they were at a loss.

Why did Jesus clear the temple in such a dramatic manner? Why did not he try to accomplish the same thing more diplomatically? Diplomacy was the order of the day and it clearly was not working giving way to more popular norms like accumulation of wealth. Jesus wanted to se the house in order and this particular time the foundations of the norm needed to be broken. Jesus was radical and he attacked foundations and he certainly knew what he was doing. One very very important point comes out here, Jesus attacked the activity` and not the people.
