Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him? man cannot serve God an mammon. Some people have gods disguised as money, power, fame, a job, etc all more important than their relationship with the Almighty God, our lord Jesus. This cannot work, cause you will be cheating God - who went great lenghts to redeem mankind. Our thanks to God is our daily love and devotion, our worship of God, not of posessions or titles.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him? Jesus told the rich man to sell all hs posessions before coming to follow Him because he was testing his faith. No one can serve two masters at the same time. He was trying to see if his earthly treasures were more important than having external life. Jesus want us to be saved he is not concerned about all our earthly posessions we posess but the way we live her lives by obeying his commandments and keeping his word.
We would be judged by the way we live our lives, the love we showed each other not by the wealth we possess. God loves us and he wants the best for us.
