By the cleansing of the temple he was simply letting us know that the purpose of the Temple is for prayer and worship. We are reminded in Isaiah 56:7 “for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all people.” However, it was being use for secular purposes and this displeases God when we change that purpose into a materialistic purpose to satisfy our human desires. God always wants us to put him first in every thing that we do. He does not want us to change the law he has commanded for the church. These activities were no part of what God authorized the church to do, so Jesus just wanted us to remember that he would cast out anyone who violates God’s purpose for the church like he cast out the money changers out of the temple. Unfortunately, today the church is still being exploited. As children of the God we were given the grace to reconcile each non-believer to the Father. See Eph 2:5, 8 and Heb 12:28. Christ died for our sins. John 15:13-14 “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” Even then, Jesus was letting his followers know that his death was unavoidable.
