What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

Hi,

I have now been enlightened with regards the everyday structure of Jesus' life. The very nature of the stratification system within the jewish community was also an eye opener for me.

What surprises me is the fact that although we boast of being an advanced society their are certain key features that have transcended the test of time since Jesus's epoch.

The segregation and degradation of women

The primary focus on the education of the young male over and above that of the female

The continuance of rigid class/social barriers

I have read the structural compostion of the Jewish system under the Roman rule and I realize that there exists major similarities to modern or comtemporary society. The only major variances are:

The focus on or access to education by women

The advent of technology which makes accessing information in my living room about a historical icon Jesus Christ a reality.
