Why does Jesus encourage focusing on the faily task at hand and discourages predicting the future/

Jesus does this because no one but the fatherknows the exact time of Jesus' second coming. Hence, we need to be constantly vigilant.

Jesus taught us to live in his word so that our sojurn throug life will be an example of Jesus' own life while on earth. Jesus also encourages us to focus on the task at hand because tomorrow is promised to no man.

Why does Jesus consider this womans desire to please him more important than giving to thepoor?
Jesus considers pleasing him more important because  the poor will alwaysd be with us but Jesus himself will only be wit us for a short while, even though it wasnot known at that time. Therefore, Jesus calls us to do whatever we can for him while we can. This woman did what she could without actually knowing the significanve of her action.

What actions of the scribes did Jesus warn against? Do we have people who act this way now?

Jesus warned the Scribes about their acts of self-righteousness and hypocrisy. They liked to go around pretending to be what thbey were not. In the process they abused their religious positions and exalted themselves before others.  He also warned that this type of behavior is not accepted and those who constantly exalt themselves would be humbled and those who humbled themsleves wouild be exalted and held in high esteem.

Yes there are people who act this way today. Often you find people who hold high positions expecting to be treated differently than others . These people often parade around drawing attention to themselves and the work they do. They always want to be in the forefront, trampling over others with no regard or respect for human dignity and the feelins of other people.
