Jesus is trying to teach us how to prepare ourselves for rejection. Whatever is the Lord's shall remain. Jesus came to give the fruit of the word, but those who refuse to share it with Him, are the same people who will eventually call upon Him to receive it.

Why did Jesus answer their question with a question? Why didn`t he just say that his authority came from God? Jesus answered their question with a question to see how wise their were in thinking and to also let them know how difficult it could be when authority is questioned.

The common people are praising Jesus, expecting him to become Israel`s next king. Jesus knew they would turn against him a few days later when he disappointed their expectation. Do you have expections of Jesus which he did not promise? Our expections of Jesus might not be what is best for us. The bible says one must ask according to God's will and when you develope that close relationship with God you know what to pray for. He knows best and He guides you accordingly. I believe it goes both ways. Jesus expects from us to do His will, then He will not disappoint us.
