Why was Peter`s rebuke a stumbling block to Jesus? Because Peter's rebuke was trying to stop Jesus from dying for the people which redeemed the people from eternal death. The main reason why Jesus went down into the world was to deliver the people. If he didn't offer himself as the sacrifice, all men would be doomed to death. Sacrifice was Jesus mission. Peter's rebuke tried to stop him, so it was a stumbling block.
