What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

Almost all the historical background of first century Israel surprises me. It seemed all "in a mess" and so gloomy and oppressed. Now I can better understand the measure of Jesus' words, which are more vivid to me with knowledge of the history. Also I can somehow imagine how difficult and how dangerous it was for Jesus to spread GOD's information in such a contradiction and confict. And still Jesus died for us. How precious His love was! What surprises me significantly is that women were second-class citizens, akin to slaves at all. How miserable it was for the ancient women! No wonder why women call men, even strangers, "my lord". And no wonder why Jesus' disciples were surprised to see him talking to a woman, especially Samaritan, who was to get water, because a Rabbi and a woman were of totally different two social classes. I'm more warmed and moved than before by Jesus' words of "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more". Now I'm more confident that GOD loves women the same as HE loves men. Women are different than men but they are of the same dignity and same position. Because men and women have been both created by GOD and are parters.

Define "Compassion"?

In my opinion, the compassion here is an emotion mixed with grievous,mercyful and love .Lord Jesus felt sorry for humanbeing suffering the diseases that sins had brought with,he wanted to help and release them from the sins .
