It is about self-regulation, where people struggle to meet the requirements of God. In the new covenant through Jesus Christ, it is about relationships with, and caring for others. It is in the act of love and giving ourselves to others that we demonstrate the way of Jesus Christ.

Why does Jesus call "Love One Another" a "New" commandment? In my opinion ,people who was in the Old Testament lived under the torah,and no one was innocent according to the old law. After Jesus died for us ,we were connected with God ,and those who believe in HIM become one flesh.It was called the Grace time ,and Jesus told us to love each other ,because he loved us first. And this commandment dose not exist in the old law.

How does being forgiven increase ones love for God? Note: According to Jesus, God`s forgiveness is motivated by love. We have been sinners and have done and continue to do many things that do not meet the standards of God. We have owed Him a lot, for we are made by Him, yet we do not fulfill His will for us. In spite of this, we are still picked up by Him, cleared of our debts, and loved by Him. That alone can cultivate and increase one's love and gratitude for Him.
