Jesus told them that a prophet is not honoured in his own country. All the religious leaders who went to the bush (I mean the process of starting a congregation from nothing, without money, food and not knowing all the community members) will tell you that they tried to spread the gospel in their hometowns, but it didn't work. A prophet is never praised at home and especially if you hail from the poor family. Unfortunately, for the unbelievers God will always rest His trust and raise a prophet from the poor families. Did David represent wealth and fame? No, he represented humblessness and meekness, because he was poor sheperd of the sheep. So was Jesus.
