In what ways are Jesus` followers salt and light to the world?

Salt adds flavour to the food. In the same way we, christians, can add flavour i.e. happiness to humanity. Light removes darkness so a true follower of Jesus can become an instrument by encouraging others to leave their sinful nature and to lead a holy life.
