Because I believe Jesus was to carry all the pain for our sins. It was through physical torture that he shed His Holy blood. He shed His blood for men.That's the only way men could be saved. His blood was/is the purest sacrifice God wanted. Animal atonement was in the Old Testament.I know God must have been very grieved at His Son's suffering. But was there any other way?

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? He needed to fill the phisacial and mental pain that each of us fill. it was a way that he took all our burdens and sins upon himself. He had to go down into hell then asend up into Heaven. He paid the ultiment penalty for all our sins, buirdens, and well being.
