Define "Compassion"?
Compassion means to feel pity and have the urge to do something to relieve the suffering of the distressed. Jesus’ compassion was such that He wanted to help all who asked Him. The blind saw, the lame walked, the lepers were healed and the hungry were fed, even the dead were brought back to life. Jesus wept feeling compassion for the city of Jerusalem seeing its future sufferings, even though the Jews were the ones who clamored for his crucifixion .

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?
The first point that surprised me about Jesus background is that Jesus lived his life in a Political atmosphere of distrust and hatred, but had infinite understanding and compassion. Secondly He obediently conformed to His middle class lifestyle of a carpenter’s son though He was the Son of God. However he did not tolerate wrong doctrines being taught the people about God’s will and was especially angry about the way the temple was used as a marketplace.Thirdly He treated women with respect which was not the way women were looked upon in that culture.Fourthly the Jewish people were controlled by their religious leaders the Pharisees and the Scribes, but Jesus boldly proclaimed them to be blind guides and hypocrites.Fifthly Jesus at the age of twelve listened patiently to the teachers in the synagogue asking them questions and listening to their answers though He was God’s own Son.His humility won Him favor in God’s sight and with men too.

Why does Jesus call "Love One Another" a "New" commandment?
Jesus called "Love One Another" a "New" Commandment becaused He first showed us that He loved us by his crucifixation on the Cross for our sins so that we may be saved and become heirs of the kingdom of God. He gave us this new commandement because He loved us and he wanted us to love all men in return and he wanted us to prove that we all His disciples just by loving one another no matter who we are, whether black or white, rich or poor, handicapped or whole as by this only we can tryly be called children of God. By loving one another Jesus said that this is the greatest commandment for it is difficult to love those who hurt and took everything from us. Even if somebody borrowed from us we should not expect anything in return if the person can not repay us as we must truly believe that our reward in heaven is great. This is the promise of our Lord Jesu Christ the only begooten son of God our Father.
