The Pharisees were upset with Jesus healing and not fasting on Sabbath. Jesus defied them when he claimed ,as the Son of Man , he is also The lord of Sabbath. Pharisee are followers to the letter of the old scriptures and who project their power by blindly following without any regard.

Jesus came to save sinners and lead them to God. By associating with Levi, the detested, the down trodden and sinners Jesus shows he does not discriminate and was willing to save all. Thats the nature of God and his unconditional love.
