Jesus probably could have been thinking of what the Spirit had spoken through him in advance of the coming events (which he preached to the people of the humiliation and torture persecutors of non believers would do to them.Mark 5:11) This was happening to him too.Thus he was reassured that Gods promise will come true that his Father would save him and accept him in heaven again as promised when he was sent on this mission. This gave him courage and strength to endure the ordeal just as it will give hope, strength and courage to his believers in God and the Christ. God has promised to bless the persecuted and will be rewarded

Pilate conceded to the crowds demand to crucify Jesus to show his power and administrative authority to quell a religious uprising thus justifying to his peers that he was a capable popular Governor. The Romans were not bothered by the peoples religious differences and had no regard for having to be right or wrong so long as they had the power to rule. This is symptomatic of some powerful rulers even on this day.

Peter had sworn he would never deny Jesus whatever happens. Yet, when his own life was challenged, Peter disown Jesus, his religious leader and companion who had chosen and made him a trustworthy apostle. Peters cowardice caused him deep sorrow so he cried in shame
