Define "Salvation" ? Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life."

Salvation is eternal life...A promise that Jesus will give to us as long as we received HIm as our personal Lord and saviour.

Mary might have been very happy after she had heard the report of the shepherd because it just confirmed that her child was really the messiah.

What do people think about John the Baptist even before he is born? Note: Sometimes a big introduction is given for a person who then introduces someone even more important. Luke is announcing the announcer of Jesus.

They think that John the baptist was the one already sent by God until John was able to preach that there is one greater than him and that he was just preparing the way of the Lord Jesus Christ.
