Zaccheus was joyful because he did not for a moment think that he was worthy to be a friend of Jesus. He was social outcast in his society. So when Jesus treated him kindly like He did with everyone else and even wanted to stay at his house, Zaccheus was overwhelmed with joy.

What characteristics of a rich person make it harder to receive the Kingdom of God? Rich persons have more in this world and have more to hang on to. That makes it difficult for them to follow Jesus because they are required to give up their possessions. This difficulty in unloading your earthly possessions make it hard for rich people to receive the Kingdom of God.
