Why did Jesus ask his followers to pray for laborers instead of praying for a greater harvest?

The laborers are the sowers of the Word and the world has a lack of it. The harvest is plentiful - there are many who have not heard the word of God and the kingdom of God needs people who will preach the Gospel to the world.
