Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life." Salvation is the act of saving the soul. It is a gift of grace from God through Jesus when He died on the cross to redeem us from our sins.

What do people think about John the Baptist even before he is born? Note: Sometimes a big introduction is given for a person who then introduces someone even more important. Luke is announcing the announcer of Jesus. Some others think that he is the savior.
