Jesus wants the disciples to know that faith does a miracle. It can turn impossible things to man into possible ones. Why Jesus has shown them after he spoke to the fig tree which does not carry fruit, the fig tree immediately withered away, because he wants the disciples to realize that if the purpose does not meet,then, death follows. Like the fig tree, it is purposely created by God to bear fruit, since it does not carry fruit, it was existence was terminated. It died. Same thing with our faith. If is not used nor practiced, it will die a natural death. If we don't do or use the gifts that God has given us,it will be taken away and be given to someone who can use it.

This has in connection with the parable of the gold coins. The servant who hid a gold coin in his handkerchief was killed and a gold coin was given to the servant with ten coins.

This only implies that while we are still given the chance to bear good fruit, materially and financially through making the time productive, and especially spiritually, the fruits of the Spirit, let's not waste the time to meet the purpose. Thus, giving glory to the Creator.
