Why was it necessary for Jesus to increase and John to decrease? It was necessary for Jesus to increase because Jesus came from above and is above all. Which means he is the son of God. He speaks the words of God and God's Spirit is upon him wihout measure. John was of earth and spoke only of the earth. Therefore he made himself low before Jesus.
