Why did John introduce Jesus as "the Lamb of God"? In the days before Jesus, people sacrificed lambs or sheeps to God so as to wipe away off their sins. Jesus came to this world to sacrifice his own life so as to save others from their sins. He offered himself as a lamb for the sins of others. Therefore he was introduced as a lamb of God by John.
