To mention few: Fasting increases our will power, when the will power is increased, we can do anything we wish. We can say no to temptations, fasting itself is a will power to say no to the temptation of food. When we can do this, we can can concentrate truly in the works of God. Understand the pain of hunger, and thus brings about a change to think of the poors around who are hungry, and to generously contribute a part of our income for them. Fasting also improves our mind and our thinking. Negative thoughts, which is the key for the destruction of one's life will gradually vanish, and therefore make us a better person.

Why does God appreciate prayers in secret more than public prayers? Prayer is talking with God with hearts and mind dedicated to God. When we pray in public we are distracted, this in turn causes interruption to our mind which was dedicated to God whole heartily.
