Why was it evil for the scribes and Pharisees to ask a sign from Jesus?

It was evil for the scribes and the Pharisees to ask a sign from Jesus because inspite of all the miracles they saw Jesus performed, they were blind spiritually and didnt believe in Him. To reject Jesus and yet ask for a sign is an act to blaspheme God. The word, 'adulterous', means unfaithful to God. To do anything that leads to unfaithfulness to God is evil.
