Why does God appreciate prayers in secret more than public prayers?

Why is giving in secret more to be commended that giving where people can see it? When we give alms to the poor it should be done in secret because when we give, we are following God's words. God has already seen the good work that you have done and has already rewarded you. God likes people who are humble. Showing others what you give is of a proud mind like the hypocrites. God does not like such people. Hypocrites does not do things to please God. They do things to please others and to seek fame for themselves. Whatever we do, we should do to please God and to bring Glory to His name.
