How does Simon Peter feel about himself, and how does Jesus change that?

Simon Peter felt unworthy of being near the Son of God and felt that he was a sinner. Jesus told him not to be afraid and that he thought he was worthy enough to be able to through Jesus bring people to God.

What is authority, and how did Jesus demonstrate authority in his teachings and actions?

Authority is knowledge and the power to comand and make decisions for others. He demonstrated his authority by his word and certainty of it and then by the spirit recognising him and him commanding it to get out of the body it had possesed which proved to the people that his words were true and he was the Son of God.
