What is in the heart of the tax collector (rejected by society) that the Pharasee (religious leader) seems to lack?

the tax collector was humble and he acknowledge his sins and rent his heart of sin and asked for mercy from God which that religious leader lack.

What is in the heart of the tax collector (rejected by society) that the Pharasee (religious leader) seems to lack?

As well as a lack of humility and standing high on the planket of his pride, the Pharisee even presumes to be able to judge the soul of the tax collector. I am not like him...how does he know? the 'priest' that Jesus gifted the world with his own self is a charitable, albeit severe, listener. And dispenser of that Gracing forgiveness that helps you overcome those sins we have to be thankful to the Lord we can overcome. Not without His aid and guidance though. Something the Pharisee is not grateful even aware of as it emerges from his words: he may have not committed other sins - though collecting what is due to Caesar is not so we have also prejudice and rebelliousness to the political order to which the Jews of the time though appealed to have the King condemned as an impostor blinded by their legalistic rules and incapable to see the true miracles on the souls - but he does not bow his head in humble gratefulness.
