Why was it necessary for Jesus to increase and John to decrease? Because in the ceremony the really important person is the bridegroom the one who has the bride. The other is a testimony and cannot `stael` the scene. We need to look up at Jesus and walk in his foosteps and by sharing in his sacrifice become one in his Bride / his Body / the Church. John precedes and announces prepares everyone for this miracle.
