In what ways is it better to have the Holy Spirit with us, than to have Jesus` physical presence on earth?

Tricky question cause if we reply that his mere physical presence would limit the far reaching potential of his rays, we would limit deny his God nature. Like when we take the Eucharist, no matter how small the particle Jesus is fully present Spirit and Body in each fragment (btw thank you Fr for the other day,theologically 'wasting' time holding the line trying to find the largest fragment...). The seed had to die to shwo us the way to Heaven to the House of the Father, showing us the path of the cross marking the steps inw which we were invited to walk. Out of love as he loved us.

What things can we (the branches) do to help us remain in Jesus (the vine).

Self checks for dead branches and regular atendance of confessions where we can get pruned and new lymph poured in.
