Roman presense

In Matthew 8:5-13, Jesus didn`t refuse helping the Roman soldier, even though Jesus strictly focused on the Jewish people in his mission. Maybe this is because Jesus rarely if ever refused anyone. And secondly it might be because Jesus knew the Roman army very well as he had grown up with the army around and about. He was probably quite happy to interact with them, as most were in his day. But what stands out is that the Roman gave Jesus the power. In that he begged and not ordered Jesus to help him.
