How did Jesus "equip" his disciples for powerful work by taking away their material possessions?
He made them focus on the work that was ahead, because in matters of faith one works more without food or water. It's always God first, as in, seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all the rest shall be added unto ye. They had to practice what they preached, have trust in God that He will provide, because its written that a preacher shall be fed by the gospel he preaches. When you carry your own possessions on God's mission, it's a sign of not trusting him to provide, or to reward you after work. Every labourer is entitled to pay, in this, they had to wait upon God.
