I don't think he wanted to be crucified, as indicated by what he said "What you do, do quickly." - more importantly though Jesus wanted to do the will of his Father because of his love for Him.Mary was at the tomb, eager to find Jesus unlike all the others. Jesus will most of the time reveal Himself first, to those who seek Him, though the apostles were also waiting for His ressurection, Mary was at the tomb, early in the morning, and i trust that is why Jesus had to see her first.

What type of circumstances are there today that might lead one to be a disciple of Jesus, but in secret, like Joseph of Arimathea? One might secretly be a Christian out of fear of pursecution by an oppressive government.
