"for the glory of God"

What was more important than raising Lazarus immediately was to generate faith in the people, because faith leads to eternal life in Heaven and not necessarily a long life on earth. 

Jesus himself would be dead for three days and then rise. People can more readily believe this by seeing this miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead.
