Why was it necessary for Jesus to increase and John to decrease?

John was not the Mesasiah, He really knew that His assignment was to proclaim the coming of Jesus, and make way for Him therefore He had to bend low.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

The Jews reaction to Jesus surprises me; they reject and distrust The Roman Empire (rightly so) and yet when Christ comes (who stands for the exact opposite of the Roman rule) they are equally distrustful and rejecting of him.

Jesus's message is so often confused and mis-interpreted in todays secular society, dogma causes conflict and breeds the nihilistic society we find ourselves in today. What is important to me is getting back to the original message of Jesus, peel away the dogma and religion, back to the truth of his word.
