What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

I learnt that hes just like the rest of us and grew up within a normal family background.  As I have just started to read the bible I learnt from this lesson about Jesus' background.  What suprised me is the division amongst faiths and why some dont follow Christ and yet Christianity is the biggest religion in the world.  Where did all other faiths come from....

JESUS

Jesus from the time he came to public awareness was an enigma. he showed how focused he was at a tender age when he asked, do you not know that am about my father's business? He exhibited love, care, tenderness and forthrightness but all fell on deaf ears. It is amazing how people witnessed miracles which did not make impact on them. Everyday, I thank God  that all Jesus did, he did because he had his eyes on God his/our Father not on his spectators. If he had looked on to man, he would have lost confidence. Through him, I have learnt to do what ever am doing as unto the Lord.

The life and times of Jesus has encouraged me enough to make him my shelter, strongtower and my shield.

Jesus

Jesus was born in bethlehem and during the first thirty years of his life he lived as a traditional jewish man, working as a carpenter.

He began his public teaching and ministry in his thirties. During this time he taught a lot of people and also displayed a number of recorded miricles.  Jesus's reputation spread nation wide despite his attemps to keep a low profile.

Jesus claimed to be God which was a violation of the Jewish law.  Religious leaders asked the Roman Government to execute him.  He was found not gulity in each of his trials of breaking any Roman laws but the religious leaders successfully argued that he was causing political upheavel persuading Pilate to execute him.

Jesus was crucified, which included him being brutally tortured and whipped prior to him being hung by his hands on a cross. He was killed in three hours, however he returned from the dead three days later according to more than 500 witnesses.  He was seen over the next 40 days in the southern and norhtern provinces of Israel.  He then left the earth by asscending to the sky.
