Spiritual Growth

I have come to realize an important factor of spiritual life which I was once not at all aware of.  I always had the theory that either one was either spiritual or not.  In my understanding there was no grey area.  You either were or you weren’t.  This, however, was a very immature perspective.  And it is in this immaturity that I realize that spiritual life is a growth period.  It has a beginning, but is fairly open-ended.  There doesn’t appear to be a limit as to how far you can progress and how much you can grow.  Spiritual growth is infinite.

I like to think of spiritual life as a process which begins in this earthly life, and carries us through what time we have left on this earth, and well into our eternal lives in the Kingdom of God – heaven.  I really only became aware of the levels of spiritual maturity once could be at, when I found myself sharing experiences with another believer, only to find that they had little to no understanding of what I was talking about.  This is not a negative thing on their part.  It merely means that their experiences thus far, have not led them to such wisdoms as my experiences have.  And, by the same token, I have met many a believer who have had spiritual experiences which are far beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

Peter describes it this way:

So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. (1 Peter 2:1-3 NLT)

I have learned that sometimes we must be cautious of what we share with the world and also with our fellow believers.  I have discovered that we must tread with discernment and understanding so as to not alarm or deter people from pursuing the Father.  God only has greatness in store for us, and He will reveal His wonders to us at the times which He sees as the right times.  Know who you are in Christ, and respect the journey.

God bless

Dear Heavenly Father,

I ask that you will, each and every day; pour out your blessings upon your people.  I pray that you will fill us with your wisdom to overflowing, and open our eyes to that which you want us to see.  Surround us with angels and open the floodgates of heaven over our lives.

With all our love and honour we thank you.

Amen.

Do unto others . . .

I LOVE this! I really enjoy doing things for others. What's even better is when I surprise people with something for them. Maybe I'm weird but I get a buzz out of it! One of my favorite things is when we go to a friends for lunch. They have 4 daughters. I make (from scratch, yes creaming the butter and sugar and sifting the flour type scratch) 2 lemon meringue pies (one to have there and one to leave for them) plus biscuits. I'm not a cook by any stretch of the imagination and as a rule don't like cooking but I do think about my friends and their girls when I'm making the treats and how much they'll enjoy it.

I think God calls this a 'new' commandment because it's so foreign to so many people - loving your neighbor, doing something for others. I think most people would say "Why should I do something for someone else? What have they done for me?"

For me, it's like giving my heart some really great nourishment. It's like I can literally feel my heart soften and overflow with joy. I don't think there's a better way to nurture and nourish your heart!

One great story here (in Australia) recently was of a 101 great grandmother who had won some money at bingo. Some kids went to her place and robbed her. They didn't hurt her physically but emotionally she was quite upset. The wonderful part is the generosity of so many people - a security company said they'd make her place secure for free, people gave money, etc. etc. I don't know if there's anyone else out there who cries over such wonderful stories? People helping people (and animals) - this is why it's great to be alive.

A Meal with Jesus and Intimacy
WOW! Wouldn't you just be over the moon to be able to do this? A meal with my favorite Role Model! It would probably leave me speechless! If I could speak, I'd probably ask about what I could do better (I don't know if I'd want to ask about how I've done so far - I think I'd cry knowing how miserably I've failed). I would DEFINITELY thank Jesus to the point of my embarrassment (and beyond)! I'd probably want to know how he felt knowing that he was going to die - I guess it would be bittersweet? Being the one God has chosen to save humanity - how many of us would have said yes to that! But he did it without question. As far as intimacy goes - I think the more you get to know Jesus, the more you WANT to be obedient. Okay, we've all given our excuses at times why we haven't been obedient but in our hearts we KNOW that God knows what's best for us.
